I drop my daughter to the bus stop at 8am and I am on the road to the quay by 8.50am, dog and sketching bag on the back seat. I feel slightly bad for Reuben because he has shown excitement at having his harness popped over his head, and I know he will be spending the next hour stuck in the car with me. But he will choose a boring hour beside me in the car over a boring hour alone at home, so I should not feel too guilty.
High tide is at 7.30am so it’s dropping now, but I should have enough time to do what I want to do. I have a nice little sketch of a white cottage on the quay in mind: I had wanted to bring it to class as a great example of reflections but I belatedly remembered it was a commission and is long gone (in fact it hangs in the owner’s second home in Florida). I figure I can easily do it again. Conditions are good: the water is just as it was when I first painted the reflections, it’s a calm day, and there aren’t any ripples to mess up the reflections.
